This book is aimed at photographers who are self-taught and who feel that there are gaps in their knowledge. It's aimed at photographers who are using at least one of the creative modes, P, TV, AV, FV and M And would consider themselves of intermediate knowledge.

This new guide, written especially for keen photographers who are already using at least one of their camera’s Creative Zone modes – Program, Av, Tv, Fv or Manual – explores the numerous questions that are implicit in the original question. Because there are so many factors that will influence your settings, the questions you need to ask yourself as you Evaluate your scene are varied, yet inherently logical, and need to become instinctively part of your thought process if you want to improve your photography.

The concept behind the book is the question that I have been asked the most within my training career, what settings should I be using? it's such a simple question and yet one that is going to vary with an enormous number of things within the picture that you're going to take. So, this book looks giving you the confidence to tackle different subjects because you have the in depth understanding to work out what the priorities are for successfully shooting that subject, whatever it may be.

The book starts off looking at the thought process for taking images and gets you thinking about prioritising what needs to be set, when and why. There is a short reference section which looks at camera compatibility, sensor size and some other things to help you understand how your camera relates to the other topics in the book.

The book covers everything you could want to know about lenses and when and how they are used to create effects within the images that you shoot. If you're looking expanding your lens range this will also help you to make more informed decisions as to which lenses you buy. There's also a lot of useful hints and tips along the way as to getting the very most out of your lenses.

We then look at focusing and what some of the common options on the cameras do and more importantly when they get used. the thought process behind setting up the focusing and explanations of how focusing works and why you sometimes get problems and how to overcome them is also included.

A major part of the book is looking at understanding the exposure triangles and the settings used within it, we take an in depth look at aperture, shutter speed and ISO not just at what they do but how and when they are used and the logic for getting some of the settings. We also look at some of the camera settings which can affect the quality you get with some ISO options.

We look at how the exposure modes fit in with using the settings that you need, allowing you to use the exposure mode that works best not just the one mode all the time and we look at how custom modes work.

We take an in depth look at some of the key camera overrides including the focusing, metering, exposure overrides, and white balance and how they are used to achieve better results. Once again there's a lot of helpful insights and tips to get you using these controls better.

The book finishes off by looking at the key filters used within photography and how they are best used and what you need to be aware of when using them and finally a very short chapter about the part postproduction can play and the simple adjustments that can further enhance the images that you take.
