EOS for Improvers workshop

EOS for Improvers workshop

EOS improvers classroomThere's so much potential for better photography with your Canon EOS DSLR camera – it's a powerhouse, packed full of fantastic features and clever controls to enhance your images in all conditions. How can you unlock these? Tap into that EOS feature-set with this one-day intermediate-level course.
This is your next step after the EOS for Beginners workshop – join us for the day and build on what you learnt on that first course so you can take even greater control of your EOS camera and improve your photography.

As part of your course, you’ll get access to a pre-course video tutorial, which will recap on some of the essential EOS knowledge, including P, Av and Tv modes, file formats and key camera controls, whilst also introducing the Q screen and how to navigate to some of the key overrides on your camera.

During the morning session you will delve deeper into your EOS camera’s settings and controls, building on what you learnt in the EOS for Beginners class. After recapping the controls you gain in the Creative modes, we’ll move onto Program shift, Manual mode and Bulb mode.

ISO settings on EOS cameras have improved in range over the years, as has your ability to control them – both by limiting and expanding the range available. You’ll find out how to control the ISO settings and how higher ISO settings can be used to your advantage in lowlight photography.

Canon has a number of pre-programmed Picture Styles built into your EOS. You’ll learn what the differences are between the varying styles and how the applied settings can enhance your photography in certain situations. So too with white balance options – we’ll explain the different pre-sets and when to use them.

Metering – measuring the brightness of your scene or subject – takes place in-camera, so you will learn how it works and explore a number of examples to demonstrate use of the various metering modes available.

You’ll also take a look at Custom modes, which offer an even greater degree of control over your camera, plus the My menu options for optimal customisation of your camera.

Lastly, we will touch on the basics of using flash both indoors and out, for those looking for even more control over light.

Taking to the outside (weather permitting) you’ll get hands-on with your camera and carry out a series of short exercises, designed to reinforce what you have learnt so far. As a group we’ll shoot several sequences using Picture Styles and White Balance presets, then analyse the results. We’ll test different ISO settings, before finally putting everything we’ve learnt to the test and switching to manual mode.

At the end of the workshop you will have explored the vast potential of your EOS camera, including some of the more sophisticated settings and customisation available, and you’ll be confident at handling and setting up your camera in varied shooting conditions.

To get the most from this course, you should have previously attended the EOS for Beginners workshop or have a firm grasp on the basics of photography, be able to explain the exposure triangle and understand what extra controls the Creative modes – P, Av and Tv – provide for you and your photography.
