PPractical course

LOCATION: London (central), Bath (central), Chester Zoo, Cotswold Wildlife Park (Oxfordshire), The Savill Garden (Windsor), Crich Tramway Museum (Derbyshire), Cambridge (central)

The introduction of the EOS R system has heralded the biggest change in the way we shoot since the transition from film to digital. With this change comes the challenge – and a very steep learning curve.

How are you getting on with your EOS R system camera?

Your new Canon R-series camera is a tough nut to crack. If you’ve previously used a DSLR, then the layout, controls and electronic viewfinder of your new mirrorless camera can definitely take time to get to know.

Spend a day as part of a small group (maximum 5) for hands-on tuition and for a real boost up that steep learning curve. You’ll learn how to navigate around your camera with greater confidence and what the key controls and overrides are, so you can start taking creative control.

You will get an introduction to the focusing system – how it works and which settings to use for static and moving subjects. This is essential if you’re also planning on attending our Focusing course as you’ll learn the basics.

The menu system is vast… you’ll find out where the key settings are and what they do, as well as how to navigate more easily around the menu.

You’ll learn about the various shooting modes and how to take control over the exposure settings, including the new Fv mode – how to make the most of Fv and why this one mode is Canon’s most versatile way of shooting yet.

As this is a small group course, you can tailor the experience to suit you, asking questions throughout to learn what you want to take your photography and camera handling forward.

If you need a recap of the basics, we strongly recommend one of our Beginner courses before coming on this day. You’ll be expected to be comfortable using the semi-automated modes (Program, Av, Tv) and understand how aperture, shutter speed and ISO interact.

By the end of this practical course, you’ll have a much firmer grasp of your EOS R-series camera, be much more confident moving around your camera and operating the key controls, and ready to use your camera to shoot better images.

Advanced beginners (knowledge of semi-automated modes and exposure triangle); Canon EOS R and RP cameras.
