This essential one-day course is the perfect starting point for all Canon EOS owners, whether you’ve just got your first EOS camera, have returned to photography after a break or you aren’t getting the results you want and would benefit from a back-to-basics approach to improve your photography.

Starting off with camera terminology and the exposure triangle, you’ll learn about the core principles of photography. We will introduce the three key elements of ISO, aperture and shutter speed, explain what each controls and how they combine.

More importantly, you’ll learn about identifying the right settings for the current light level – a critical area that will make all the difference to your success.

So you can start making use of this knowledge, you’ll need to move off the fully automatic modes, so we’ll explain to you about selected Creative Zone shooting modes. You’ll learn why using Program, Av and Tv modes will give you greater control and creativity whilst still taking advantage of some of the automated functions.

Improving your success rate is critical, so you will find out how to get your shots sharper by learning what speeds you need to use to avoid the effects of camera shake and how to focus on your subject.

You’ll also learn about depth-of-field in relation to aperture setting and your choice of lens and focal length, and the impact that this has on your final image.

At the end of the workshop you will have new-found confidence handling your EOS camera and you’ll have both the skills and resources you need to start taking control.

So that you can get to grips with some key terms and basic camera navigation, you’ll get access to a pre-course video tutorial before coming for the day. This means you'll be up to speed and handling your camera more confidently before arriving, plus you'll be at the same starting point as your fellow classmates.

Bring your EOS camera, a lens, memory card and a fully charged battery.
