Get off Auto

PPractical course

Understanding camera0021Using your EOS camera’s automatic modes is great for snapshots and to help you as you learn your way around your camera. However, your camera won’t get it right all of the time, particularly when you want to start improving your composition and creativity. How do you get beautiful blurred backgrounds, pin-sharp subjects or choose when to use longer exposures?

To step your photography up a gear and take greater creative control of your camera, you need to get off auto.

Away from the Basic Zone – which contains all of the automated modes like SCN, Flash off, Auto+ – there’s a lot more to consider before pressing that shutter button. On this one-day practical event you’ll learn all about the exposure triangle and how to make best use of each of the Creative Zone modes – Program, Av, Tv and Manual. You’ll get to know the relationship between ISO, aperture and shutter speed and how, on the different modes, they can be utilised to extend your creativity.

These four Creative Zone modes all offer the same overrides, so you’ll find out what each override does, how it affects your images and when to apply that override. Learn too how to focus where you want and how to use the focusing to control the exposure.

You’ll grow more confident navigating round your camera, understanding what each of the buttons and dials does and where to go in the menu for the settings you need.

It’s the perfect day out for EOS newbies or if you’ve had your EOS camera for a while and are ready to take the next step. You’re guaranteed that you’ll learn the techniques needed to get the image right in-camera, reducing the amount of time spent in post-production.

By the end of the day you’ll be much more confident in handling your camera and able to take more control of your photography, whatever subject you shoot. You’ll know how to blur the background, take sharp shots and understand that by controlling the ISO you’ll be able to use your camera in a variety of ways without being held back by a tripod.

This course is at a beginner’s level, so no experience is needed. This fully practical event is run at a location specially chosen to practise the different skills you’ll learn during the day. And in 2018 it’s a course we’ll be taking around most of England, so watch out for a course near you!

As part of your course, you’ll also get to watch a comprehensive pre-course video tutorial. This is an integral part of your course and will help you familiarise yourself with a few of the key terms and functions that we’ll be using on the day. What’s more, this video remains available to you after your course, so if you need to brush up on any of the key points, you’ll be able to do so at your leisure afterwards.

For the best learning experience, groups are kept small on this course. You be one of five EOS photographers (maximum) on the day. And, because we know the Canon EOS system inside out, you’ll be given relevant and tailored instruction on your EOS camera, whether you own the EOS 1300D, 750D, 5D Mark IV or M5.

So take that next step – get off Auto and learn how to use your EOS camera to its full potential.

Beginners and above; all Canon EOS camera models including EOS M-series.

The maximum on this practical course is 5 photographers, meaning you get plenty of opportunities to have your questions answered and the tuition tailored to your camera.
