CClassroom course

Learning how to use light effectively is an essential skill to improve your photography. This part-theory, part-practical classroom-based course is all about harnessing the capabilities of flash so you can create better images in a range of situations.

Flash is one of the most misunderstood aspects of photography – this course will overcome your fears and inhibitions to open up a whole new world of possibility with your photography.

During the course you’ll learn how and when to use your built-in flash or Speedlite, in both low light and bright conditions, and how the shooting mode you use can affect your results.

You’ll find out how the automatic flash system works, and learn how you can control the results. You’ll learn about fill-in flash, high speed sync and how to avoid red-eye when using flash.

For the practical element of the day, you’ll experience on-camera flash, bounce flash, understand about mixing daylight with flash and discover how to use simple off-camera flash. As a group we’ll be working with a model, so numbers are limited so you can spend time practising what you’ve learnt with a live subject.

Your tutor is an expert with each and every Canon Speedlite and EOS camera. You will receive individual guidance on your EOS camera and Speedlite, whatever combination you own.

By the end of the day you will be more confident in your ability to use flash and any previous fear will be banished.

– How your Canon EOS camera and flash work together
– Built-in flash and the Canon Speedlite system
– Creating natural-looking results in bright and dark environments
– When and how to use bounce flash

You need to be comfortable using the Creative Zone modes (Program, Av, Tv) to make the most of this course, though no previous knowledge of flash is needed.

As a minimum you should have attended the EOS for Beginners and/or an Optimise your EOS course.

The maximum on this workshop course is 10 photographers, meaning you get plenty of opportunities to have your questions answered and the tuition tailored to your Canon camera and Speedlite combo.
