Understanding focusing practical: advanced cameras
suitable for EOS 5D Mark III / 5DS / 5DS R / 5D Mark IV / 7D Mark II

focusing left imagesA full day at a wildlife park for users of the EOS 7D Mark II, 5D Mark III, 5D Mark IV and 5DS/R. With plenty of subjects to practise on we’ll look at how the focusing system works and is best configured. We cover all these models on this event as their focusing systems and set-ups are virtually identical. You’ll learn what the optimal settings are for  capturing fast action, such as birds in flight.

The small group size of five allows for personal attention from your lecturer. If you have queries about your camera beyond the focusing system there will be opportunities to ask during the day.

This course is also suitable for EOS-1D X series owners looking to make better use of the focusing system.

Enthusiast vs. advanced courses
This course is for the advanced series of EOS cameras. We have selected cameras with identical or very similar focusing systems so that we can demonstrate consistent techniques across the group. The level identifies the camera grouping, not your level as a photographer. If you own a camera with the less complex focusing system – EOS 80D, 77D, 70D, 800D, 760D, 750D, 7D (Mark I), 6D Mark II and selected earlier models – then you need the Enthusiast camera course

Learn about:
– Focusing point set-up on the camera
– How to choose the right focusing mode
– Focusing patterns and their use
– Other settings that can affect the focusing system
– Factors that can affect the burst rate
– Best settings for action photography
– Using the custom modes for fast selection

You will need:
Bring your camera and telephoto lens of at least 300mm (longer if you have it). If you have extenders then please bring them too.

Fitness:

This event is run at several locations which all offer suitable subjects for the course, but have varying degrees of terrain.

Pensthorpe – some of the terrain is uneven and it can be muddy when wet. The site is quite large and we will be walking up to three miles during the day.

Birdworld – the site is paved and flat. There are plenty of seating areas and we'll cover up to two miles during the event.

Chester Zoo – there are good paths throughout the zoo. You're likely to be walking two-three miles throughout the day so a reasonable fitness level is recommended.

Slimbridge Wetland Centre  - New for 2017! Good level paths, accessible to all. The site, however, is large so a good level of fitness is recommended as the distance covered will be up to three-four miles.

Barnes Wetlands, London  - New for 2017! The majority of paths around the site are flat, typically constructed of compacted gravel. The centre is wheelchair and mobility scooter friendly. We will walk between two and four miles during the event. In poorer weather there may be some muddy patches.

Course cost is for tuition only. Entry fees and refreshments not included in price.
